MY ROLE / DIRECTOR · DP · EDITOR
I first met Christian on a Zoom call arranged by our producer. He told me about hunting with his father, who had recently passed away, and how he now shares that part of his life with his fellow firefighters. Between his work saving lives and the time he spends hunting, he felt his dad was still with him. I knew there was a film in that story, if we gave it the time and attention it needed.

I flew to Colorado with a friend who helped with equipment and B camera. Over seven days, we followed Christian at home, at work, with his friends, and on hunting trips that started with 4 a.m. wake-up calls. There were only a few chances to get some of the key shots. I wanted to be ready for them without directing every moment and losing what made his story feel real.

By the end of the week, we had the material I would shape into “Inherit.”
I was one of four directors selected by Chene Gear, it screened for 5,000 people at the 2024 Chene Gear Film Festival and placed second. Seeing a story that began in a Zoom conversation reach that audience is something I’ll always remember.
